Part of the glamorous saga of the Côte d’Azur, the hotel stands surrounded by palms, terraced gardens and colonnades, living up to its image of having been host to the world’s most renowned and prestigious. As you make your way through the astounding landscape against the backdrop of the shimmering ocean, you are taken into a magical haven of surreal grandeur where stories long gone unfold along the way.
Not surprisingly, Cap Estel has a rich history since its establishment in 1900 by Frank Harris, friend and confidant of Oscar Wilde. Countess Mery de la Canorgue, acquired the property at an auction and renamed the estate ‘Roc Saphir’ for reasons still obvious to the onlooker, after which the complex was possessed by Rose Angeline Levieuze, the French mistress of Count Sergei, one of the last Stroganovs, whom she married later on.
In 1923, Cap Estel went on to be owned by the heir to an old family of Greek ship builders and an automobile pilot, André Embiricos. However it was only in 1951 that the property was transformed into an enchanting retreat by Robert Squarciafichi, and was henceforth ranked a blissful oasis for millionaires.
The death of its last owner in 1993 led to the property falling into disrepair, after which the family of the current owners gained the estate after being captivated by its charm. It has been then renovated befitting the 21st Century, with the intent of preserving its historic glory and classic Italian inspired architecture.
Emerging from its star spangled past, the historical wrought iron gates of Cap Estel have now been opened to all, offering the stunning rare gem and its exquisite pleasures for the world to indulge in.
